About This Event

Kaleidoscope 2026: Mixed and Multi-Racial Heritage in Therapy is an online workshop scheduled for Friday 20 November 2026, beginning at 9am. This event is tailored for therapists, counsellors, and mental health professionals who work with clients of mixed and multi-racial heritage. It focuses on the distinctive psychological challenges faced by this group, such as identity confusion and a pervasive sense of not belonging, particularly when these issues are compounded by experiences of racism or family rejection. Speakers will examine how practitioners can assist clients in cultivating a secure sense of identity within both their families and the wider communities. The workshop aims to provide practical insights for supporting individuals navigating these complex dynamics. Tickets are available from £1.

People of mixed and multi racial heritage are the fastest growing minoritised group in the UK. With the blessing and support of their families and communities they can grow up secure in their identity and feel part of their community. But those who face racism, and rejection from family members and wider society could struggle with self esteem, identity confusion or feel they don’t belong anywhere. Some interracial couples and parents raising multiracial families also encounter racism and rejection. If their mental health is affected these children and adults may need therapeutic help.

Historically, this section of society has been ignored by the therapy world, which means counsellors and therapists working with these clients have been doing so without specialised training, supervision, or educational resources. Kaleidoscope an online event held in November 2025, dedicated to this group, was the first attempt to address this deficit. It was a tremendous success with attendees participating from all over the world. Kaleidoscope 2026 will be online on Friday November 20th, 2026, and aims to build on that foundation. The focus for this year is working with mixed and multi racial heritage children, adults, couples in interracial relationships, and parents raising multi racial families.

Presenters on the day have ancestral roots from all over the world. Counsellors and therapists will be joined by social workers, academics, artists, youth workers, and those working in the criminal justice system, as these are professions that also lack the resources for meeting the needs of this group. Some presentations will be educational, and others will offer insights from the lived experience.

Kaleidoscope 2026 is for all professionals working with this group of clients or service users. Members of the public are especially welcome. So, if you are of mixed or multi racial heritage yourself or are parents, carers, grandparents, or wider family members - please join us. Tickets are 25-50 pounds and you pay what you can afford.
