A Guided Walking Tour of Waterford City's Heritage Bars
Raise a Glass is a cultural tour of some of Waterford City’s beloved bars. It’s a drinking, thinking, talking, walking, and toasting tour.
You’ll meet your guide Sinéad at a prominent plaza setting on the quayside and then we’ll meander to lively local establishments, each stop with its own unique history and quirks. Along the way, we’ll pause and note other important hospitality heritage spots.
________________________________________
Our first pub-of-call is in the cultural quarter to experience a bar with a lengthy and turbulent history. After savouring the house special here, we’ll continue our cultural journey towards a family-run hostelry that lies at the edge of the Viking Triangle. Reluctantly we'll leave this cosy haven on the quayside and head towards the bustling Applemarket area where our last call is at a quirky bar that’s an old favourite with the locals.
This tour explores the heritage, history, and social stories behind some of the city’s finest public houses. We’ll discuss Irish Pub Culture, past and present. And together we’ll do our best to figure out what the future holds for the Irish ‘Wet’ Pub; is it a story of a glass-half-full or half-empty?
So, if you’re curious when it comes to Waterford’s Publore and more, join in and let us lead the way!
