Many practitioners receive little training in how to use genograms beyond basic family mapping. Yet a genogram is far more than a family tree. When used thoughtfully, it can reveal patterns of attachment, trauma, caregiving, grief, resilience, cultural influences, family roles, inherited beliefs, and intergenerational experiences that may otherwise remain hidden. It can also be invaluable when working with clients affected by genetic diagnoses, inherited conditions, rare diseases, and family health histories, helping us understand how illness, risk, loss, and uncertainty are experienced across generations.

In this practical and reflective workshop, we'll explore how genograms can deepen assessment, formulation, and therapeutic understanding. Drawing on attachment theory, family systems thinking, and genetics-informed practice, we'll move beyond symbols and structure to uncover the stories families carry across generations.
