Jane’s Walk is a movement of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs
'Jane’s Walks' take place in hundreds of cities around the world to encourage people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.
The next Jane’s Walk Nottingham will be led by Simon Middlecote, Architect and resident of Abbey Park, West Bridgford. The walk will pick up on the theme of “How We Dwell” as we walk through this quietly innovative 1970s housing estate.
We will consider how housing changed radically in the second half of the 20th Century and discuss how the developers and designers of the estate kept true to principles of community life, public space, and the creation of opportunities for neighbourliness. What can we learn from Abbey Park - from permeable fences to Ladies that Lunge. What is it like to live here?
The walk is free, open to all and will follow a fully accessible route on public streets. The walk will take around 90 minutes including stops to chat about the things we see and to hear from local residents and contributors.
The meeting point at the start of the walk will be the notice board at the junction of Rufford Way and Buckfast Way - what3words
The walk will be about 1 and a half miles in length on a step free route on pavements or parkland.
The event also marks 50 years since the completion of the estate. Discover more about the area her - Abbey Park Community Association
