About This Event

Joining a community effort to celebrate World Soil Day, the Community Compost Tour at The Gatehouse in Bristol will take place on December 5th. This event aims to raise awareness about soil health and sustainability while encouraging composting as part of reducing waste. Prices range from £1.00 to £10.00.

Join us in celebrating World Soil Day on December 5th which aims to raise awareness about the importance of healthy soils for sustainable agriculture, ecosystems and food security, and waste reduction. In support of this, we are excited to invite you to Hartcliffe City Farm to learn about our composting programme , and how it’s improving the environment in and for our community. Composting is an amazing process, creating healthy soil which is essential for life. And turning our food waste into compost is a simple, easy and effective way of caring for the environment and improving the soil for future generations. We are confident that after coming on our compost tour, you’ll never want to throw your food waste in the bin again! You can find out more about how we are helping to care for the soil in BS13 here . What will happen on the tour? We’ll take you to see our Ridan composting machine, which allows us to process food waste, before it goes into compost bays. You’ll get to help turn the compost and load it into the bays, check out the bugs and other life in our living soil, and visit the flower farm where our compost ends up. And there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, over tea and biscuits! When : Saturday 5th December 1.30-3.30pm Cost: £1 – BS13 residents who receive income-related benefits £5 – Standard ticket £10 – Pay it forwards ticket (this ticket helps others to attend) Children FREE (must be accompanied by an adult, max 3 children to 1 adult) What to wear: We will be outside at the flower farm so recommend that you wear appropriate footwear and dress for all weathers!
