Thirty years after the film’s release, *Trainspotting: The Musical* receives its world premiere at the Regent Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent on Tuesday 5 January 2027 at 7.30pm. Written by Irvine Welsh, with music and lyrics by Stephen McGuinness and Welsh, the production is directed and developed by Caroline Jay Ranger. It adapts Welsh’s unflinching story of addiction, friendship, and survival in 1990s Edinburgh for the stage, retaining the raw energy and dark humour of the original. The performance uses live music and theatre to explore the characters’ descent into heroin use and their fragile attempts to escape it. Tickets are available from £19.
