The Discover the Art of Seabird Photography workshop will take place at RSPB Bempton Cliffs in Scarborough on 2026-09-08. The workshop will focus on mastering the art of seabird photography.
Ready to capture the beauty of seabirds in action? Join us at RSPB Bempton Cliffs and master the art of seabird photography!
Ready to unlock the secrets of seabird photography at one of the UK’s most breathtaking coastal locations? Join me, Ali Marley, for an unforgettable day capturing the incredible seabirds of RSPB Bempton Cliffs!
Here’s what makes this workshop different: I’m not just a photographer who happens to teach – I’m a seabird specialist who lives and breathes these magnificent birds. I’ve spent years chasing gannets at Bass Rock, waiting for that perfect puffin moment on Lunga, and learning the rhythms of seabird life at the Farne Islands, St Abbs Head, and right here at Bempton Cliffs. As an award-winning and published wildlife photographer, I’m excited to share everything I’ve learned with you!
This is so much more than camera settings and composition (though we’ll cover those too!). You’ll discover the insider secrets that most photographers never learn: the telltale signs that a gannet is about to launch into flight, the body language of a puffin preparing for takeoff, the patterns of returning birds laden with fish. These are the golden nuggets of knowledge that transform your photography from snapshots to stunning, perfectly-timed captures.
We’ll start cozy and warm in the classroom, breaking down the technical essentials in a relaxed, jargon-free way. Then the real adventure begins – we’ll head to the clifftops where thousands of seabirds create one of nature’s greatest spectacles. With my guidance, you’ll learn to read the action, anticipate the moments, and capture images you’ll be proud to share.
Small groups mean you’ll get plenty of one-on-one attention, personalized tips for your camera and your style, and the confidence to keep improving long after the workshop ends. Whether you’re an absolute beginner or you’ve been dabbling in photography for a while, I’ll meet you where you are and help you take that leap forward.
What’s included:
• A full day of expert tuition from an award-winning seabird photography specialist
• Classroom session covering all the essentials – camera settings, composition, light, and crucially, seabird behaviour
• Extended hands-on photography session on the clifftops with personal guidance
• Tea and Coffee provided during our time in the classroom. Lunch not included – feel free to bring your own packed lunch or pre order something from the lovely on-site café.
What to bring:
• Your camera (any camera works, though DSLR or mirrorless is ideal)
• A telephoto lens if you have one (but don’t worry if you don’t!)
• Weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear – we’re on the cliffs!
• Your sense of adventure and a readiness to be amazed
Places are limited because I want to give each participant the attention they deserve.
Don’t miss this chance to learn from someone who knows these birds inside out, has photographed them in all their glory across the UK’s best seabird colonies, and genuinely can’t wait to share that passion with you.
Book now and let’s create some magic together at Bempton Cliffs!
