The image of the moon reflected in water is often used in Buddhism to show the illusory nature of the world. But what does it really mean to say that life is a dream or an illusion, and how can we experience it like that in any meaningful way?

This question leads us to the central, fundamental teaching of Maha Ati, which lies at the heart of all Buddhist practices, and which enables us to see the world both as a rainbow-like display and as more real and alive than ever before.

The Heart of the Buddha is a series of public talks started by Rigdzin Shikpo: they are his unique presentation of the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism, relevant and accessible to Western students, which he called Mahayana Mahā Ati. After Rigdzin Shikpo's passing the teachers of the Longchen Foundation continue giving public talks within this series.

Francesca Fremantle is the author of Luminous Emptiness and co-author with Trungpa Rinpoche of The Tibetan Book of the Dead . She is one of the most senior teachers appointed by Rigdzin Shikpo within the Longchen Foundation.

We will start the afternoon at 1pm with 30 minutes of meditation after which Francesca's teaching will begin. There will be a tea break in the afternoon.

This event takes place in-person at St. Margaret's Institute, 30 Polstead Rd., Oxford OX2 6TN. It is an opportunity to meet fellow practitioners from the Longchen Foundation. There is also an option to participate in the event via Zoom.
