Join our expert guides to find out extraordinary stories about the 'ordinary' people remembered here at St Mary's, and the everyday histories of working life in the graveyard.

Heritage and nature come together in St Mary's Heritage Centre. Join us this Heritage Open Day for a tour of St Mary's Graveyard.

This 30 minute tour covers the lesser-known parts of the region's heritage and the storied past of one of Gateshead's oldest graveyards.

You are welcome to hang-around after the tour to enjoy this rare spot where history meets nature in urban Gateshead at the start of the Tyne Derwent Way. Magic Hat have a pop-up cafe inside St Marys for the day that you may wish to head inside for.

Accessibility

This tour is suitable for all, although we'd recommend you're comfortable walking/ being on your feet for up to 30 minutes - or travelling the equivalent distance and time in your wheelchair. Let us know if you have access needs, as some of the graveyard is bumpy underfoot and involves steps.
