Come and stitch with us at North Shields Library on Friday 4 September, 12.30 to 2.30.
You'll start a small piece in the room, learn the stitches you need to keep going, and take home your work in progress along with a pattern to finish over the weekend.
What you'll do
Pick a design at the table. I'll show you the basic stitches and come round to help wherever you're stuck. Stitch at your own pace.
Two ways to stitch. You choose at the table.
Easy-to-hold setup. Plastic grid canvas, larger blunt needle, wool. Sturdy, forgiving materials with a simplified tent-stitch technique. Helpful if you like a clearer grid and chunkier thread.
Traditional setup. Aida fabric, hoop, DMC cotton thread, finer needle. Closer to the cross-stitch you may already know from before.
You'll have a small selection of designs in each setup, all rooted in the North East history: heritage roses inspired by local museum collections, the Angel of the North, a Northumberland landscape, and a regional football design among them.
What's included
🧵 All materials (canvas or Aida, thread or wool, needle, hoop)
☕ Tea and coffee
📄 A pattern and materials to take home so you can finish your piece at the weekend
