Talks in the Pub, from the team behind Seed Talks .. A pint, some pub snacks, and everything you never knew about why you can't concentrate.
This talk will be available at two different times. For the 7:45pm session, click here.
You sit down to do something important. 20 minutes later you’re deep in a rabbit role about something completely irrelevant. Sound familiar? Of course it is – and in this talk, we’re going to find out exactly why.
We’ll start by looking at the psychology of attention – from our cave-dwelling ancestors to modern-day doom-scrollers and the dopamine hit of a new notification. We’ll run through experiments that show just how limited our attention really is. Some of it will surprise you. Some of it might make you feel considerably better about yourself.
The big question is: are we wired this way, or is there anything we can actually do about it? There is, as it happens – and you’ll leave with a few practical ideas to take away.
Doors open at 6pm, talk starts at 6:15pm - come down early to grab a good seat!
Your speaker:
Dr Alon Zivony is an expert attention researcher, and a Lecturer of Psychology and Neuroscience in the University of Sheffield. He published dozens of articles about the topic of attention, and previously held prestigious British Academy and EU fellowships.
