RIBA NW HSC Group will host a visit and guided tour of the Campfield site's Upper Hall on 13th October. The tour is a Grade II Listed Building and will include the Upper and Lower Campfield Market Halls.
Campfield, the Upper Hall, is a Grade II Listed Building. Campfield site includes the Upper and Lower Campfield Market Halls, designed by Mangnall and Littlewood, built in 1878, to be used as fresh produced markets, open to the public. The two buildings, non-identical, are of the 'industrial vernacular architectural style, reflecting Manchester's industrial heritage. They were located either side of St Mathew's church (demolished in 1951). Over the decades, the Upper Hall, was used for exhibitions for modern lifestyle displays, as an indoor park, etc. Most recently, as with the Manchester Air and Space Museum, before its closure in 2020. In 2025, the Upper Hall was restored and transformed into a technology hub for creative industries and innovation on weekdays and a social space for markets on weekends.
