HJUK Humanistic Rosh Hashanah: A Seder HaSimanim

Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Chapel, Hampstead

The Seder HaSimanim is one of the oldest and loveliest Rosh Hashanah traditions — a table of symbolic foods, each carrying a hope for the year ahead. We'll eat our way through them together, and ask what each symbol means to us, what we want to cut away, what we hope will multiply, what we'd like to see torn up and started again.

This is a bring-and-share evening, built by all of us, so we'd be grateful for your contributions. We need dishes made from:

• Leeks

• Dates

• Beans

• Pomegranate

• Butternut squash

• Artichoke

• And plenty of apples and honey

Sweet or savoury, elaborate or beautifully simple — whatever you bring becomes part of the seder. Please also bring kiddush wine or grape juice.

We'll then have a go at sounding the shofar. Everyone is welcome to try, however uncertain the results, and the best blast of the night takes home a gift.

Tickets: £10 concessions | £15 supporters (please consider donating more in person to help us maintain our special relationship with Rosslyn Hill Unitarians who so graciously give us the space (but with costs).

Do let us know what you're planning to bring, so we end up with a full table of simanim rather than seven bowls of the same thing.

We also welcome volunteers to help us set up and take down the space.
