Saturday 5th September 2026
Meeting time: 10am
Meeting point: Sydenham Hill Station, College Rd, London SE21 7ND
End point: West Dulwich Station, Thurlow Park Road Dulwich SE21 8HN
Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 6 km
Duration: Approx 2 hours
Join us as we walk through Dulwich Park and Sydenham Hill Wood, two beautiful green spaces in South East London. The route takes us through open parkland, woodland paths and quieter natural areas. Sydenham Hill Wood is home to some ancient trees and has a more wild, woodland feel, making it a lovely contrast to the open spaces of Dulwich Park. A peaceful walk that offers a chance to enjoy nature without leaving London.
About our partnership: This walk is being offered as part of the 'Reuniting Sydenham Hill Wood and Dulwich Wood' project, an initiative that brings together two ancient woodlands known locally as Dulwich Wood and Sydenham Wood, while delivering a host of physical improvements and community activities to this much-loved local resource and green space.
The project is made possible by the support of a number of funders and community partners: The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Dulwich Estate, Southwark Council, The Kusuma Trust, The John Horseman Trust, Black Girls Hike and Wanderers of Colour. This funding and these partnerships help to secure the future of the woods by bringing together the management of Sydenham Hill Wood and Dulwich Wood under London Wildlife Trust, and welcoming people from all backgrounds into the Woods.
Terrain: A mix of woodland trails and pavement paths, with some inclines and steps. Paths can be slippery and muddy in wet weather, so hiking boots with good ankle support are recommended.
What to bring: Water, light lunch/snacks, weather appropriate clothing, layers, and supportive footwear suitable for walking for several hours.
Facilities: Toilets are available in Horniman Gardens, which is partway through the hike.
Transport: The walk starts and ends at train stations serviced by Southeastern trains. Visit https://tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/ to play your journey.
Parking: This walk is not a circular route and so starts and ends in different places. Paid parking is available at Sydenham Hill Station Car Park, and it is a 6-minute train journey from West Dulwich Station back to Sydenham Hill Station.
