About This Event

The Deaf Institute will host XL Poncho on 2 October 2026, presenting a performance by the Liverpool-born quartet just months after their formation in June 2025. Having honed their sound within a student living room, the group crafts tracks that bear an unmistakable and immediate character. The event offers a rare opportunity to witness this new act deliver songs that sound distinctly like themselves without reliance on established production histories.

XL Poncho were born in June 2025, and immediately began writing their first songs. Honing this sound in their student living room, they’ve learned to make tracks that sound like them, without needing a professional studio or outside influence. It channels the vigour of modern bands, like English Teacher and Fontaines D.C. while harbouring a sonic identity inspired by numerous rock influences; from Blondie to Porcupine Tree.

Having made their start releasing covers on social media, the fanbase is quickly expanding. With their socials experiencing exponential growth, and a successful run of sell-out gigs at the beginning of 2026, they are already taking it to the next level.
