⚖️ THE VARIABLE PRESSURE MODEL: UNDERSTANDING ADHD & AUTISM
📅 10 September | 6:30–8:30pm
📍 Craftea, Meanwood, Leeds
YANMH are hosting an interactive evening exploring ADHD, autism and the behaviour we see in children and adults.
And we’re going to be showcasing something new.
⚖️ THE VARIABLE PRESSURE MODEL
The model looks beyond ADHD and autism as a collection of traits and asks a much more useful question:
What is actually driving the behaviour? ❓
ADHD. Autism. Trauma. PDA. Learning disabilities. Sensory needs. Demands. Anxiety. Identity. Belonging. Shame. Expectations. Relationships. Environment. Previous experiences.
It all matters.
And when those things interact, the pressure changes.
That pressure can show itself in all sorts of ways — procrastination, avoidance, anxiety, anger, aggression, sensory overload, meltdowns, shutdown, burnout, impulsivity, withdrawal or agreeing to everything just to keep everyone else happy.
🗣️ This isn’t going to be a lecture.
You talk. We talk.
We’ll get the real-life problems people experience up on the board and use the Variable Pressure Model to start making sense of them.
What’s creating the pressure? What’s keeping it there? And what can we actually change?
👤 ADHD and/or autistic yourself?
👨👩👧 Parent or carer?
🎓 Teacher or SEND professional?
🩺 Health or social care professional?
🧠 Or just want to understand neurodivergence better?
Come and get involved.
No two people experience ADHD or autism in exactly the same way.
The Variable Pressure Model helps explain why.
♿ Please note: Craftea is on the third floor with quite a few stairs and unfortunately isn’t wheelchair accessible.
☕ Craftea have kindly provided the space for free (thankyou!), allowing us to offer free tickets. There’s no obligation, but if you can, please support them by buying a drink, cake or snack while you’re there.
