The Task:
Our Wycombe Almshouses sessions are all about helping to maintain the shared gardens to create a relaxing and colourful space for residents and their visitors. We will be carrying out general gardening tasks such as mowing, planting, weeding, cutting back and other garden maintenance tasks. Don't worry though, you don't need any gardening experience, we can teach you all you need to know.
Everything we do is to encourage wildlife to this urban area. We want to see more butterflies, bees and other pollinators and perhaps even a slow worm might make an appearance!
Almshouses are relaxed and social sessions, come along and say hello!
Timings (please note these timings are approximate):
5pm: Arrival for safety briefing, please don't be late!
6pm: Tea & coffee break
7pm: Work finishes, time to go home!
What to bring:
Please bring your gloves (we will have spares) and dress for the weather and the task.
Long trousers are advisable as there may be ticks and thorny vegetation. We also recommend wearing steel toe capped or sturdy boots rather than trainers.
Wear layers that you can remove if you get hot whilst working. Bring a waterproof as most of our sites have no shelter from the rain. You may need a hat and suncream if it's sunny!
Please bring plenty of fluids. We will bring a tea kit and biscuits.
Access:
Almshouses gardens are on a gradual slope and should be suitable for all.
Please note:
Biscuits are served at all Chiltern Rangers sessions. Please advise if you have an allergy.
Sometimes there is a need for us to use power tools that can be noisy.
