From the damage and destruction of land to produce goods whose production was reliant on enslavement such as sugar to the development of Quinene described by Winston Churchill as saving “more Englishmen’s lives, and minds, than all the doctors in the Empire.” The use of plants in science, food production and technology was a key factor in colonial Empire and continues to shape lives today. This tour will draw on the Glasgow Museums Collection to explore some of those uses. FREE but limited to 15 spaces.
