Sonica Glasgow will take place at Tramway on 26 September 2026, featuring performances by Caïn و Muchi & Malo Lacroix, Grey Line – SPIME.IM, and aya x MFO; ticket details are available on the festival’s website.
Caïn و Muchi & Malo Lacroix UK Premiere Part prayer, part curse, part poem, this collaboration between avant-garde musical duo Caïn و Muchi (vocalist Vanda Forte and composer Sinclair Ringenbach) and director Malo Lacroix is an emotive response to the issues galvanising and paralysing us today: the threat of forever war in the Middle East, systemic attacks on feminism and freedom, cultures obliterated in the pursuit of profit. Haunting Arabic vocals and tough-edged rap mingle with live electronics and Lacroix’s accompanying visuals, which mix documentary footage and abstract visualisations. Together, the trio convey a sense of wonder and resilience at a time of historic strife. Vanda Forte: singing – microphone Sinclair Ringenbach: musical composition and sound Malo Lacroix: live video, light and production With thanks to Bi-Pole, 6MIC, Gros Oeuvres Supported by Institut français – Pôle International de la Danse et des Arts (PIDA), Institut français d’Écosse and Kultur Ensemble. Grey Line – SPIME.IM Scottish Premiere Experimental transmedia collective SPIME.IM asks a complicated, timely question: “What is the truth of a lie that knows it lies?” In a dizzy audiovisual barrage, Grey Line interrogates, samples, transforms and smashes together high and low culture, the deepfaked and the real, the sublime and the slack-jawed, false facts and true artifice. Each performance of Grey Line is a one-off that incorporates up-to-the-minute news footage and snippets of social media footage that explode across multiple screens, all set to a soundtrack of techno, drum n’ bass and weird pop so thrilling you almost won’t care what’s real anymore. aya x MFO Scottish Premiere “It feels like witchcraft; maybe it is” – Pitchfork on aya’s hexed! (Hyperdub) Uncompromising musician-producer aya brings her audiovisual show to Sonica for a debut Scottish performance. Aya’s dizzying mix of musical styles – from drum ’n’ bass and metal to hardcore and grime – is unified by her vocals: a raucous flow which tackles, dismantles and perpetuates information overload, trauma recovery and the ferocious joy of gender affirmation. As mfo, Marcus Weber brings two decades of experience to bear on accompanying visuals that match aya’s pugnacious performance with pulses, stabs and streaks of stark light. Together these two artists disorientate to reorientate, pushing the envelope of futuristic dance music. Performances contains Strobe effects; Flashing lights; Loud or sudden noises. Content warning: Offensive material/ language; Some bloody images.
