A look into Glasgow's City Chambers, considered to be one of the finest examples of municipal building in the UK.
Glasgow City Chambers was built in the 1880s and is considered to be one of the finest examples of municipal building in the UK. Dr Nina Baker will lead us into the parts of the city chambers most people never see, as she takes us through the history of how it came to be built: the arguments over the competitions, the choices the council made and how those all worked out in practice.
Dr Nina Baker has had a varied career, as a merchant navy deck officer, materials lecturer in further education and as a university research administrator and, until 2017, as an elected city councillor. She is now an independent engineering historian, based in Glasgow, Scotland, mainly specialising in the history of women in engineering, and has also published books on maritime and aviation history.
