About This Event

The Briggait in Glasgow will host an exhibition of Hamish Angus McAndrew's work, ART_itecture, from 19 August 2026. Details of admission will need to be checked on the event website.

Exploring the intersection between art and architecture, ART_itecture showcases a breadth of meticulously detailed pen drawings, physical models and animations that delve into a number of real world and imagined projects from the studio of Hamish Angus McAndrew – a sole practitioner architect currently working across Scotland & beyond. Hamish’s architectural delineations have received success internationally and have been exhibited on both sides of the Atlantic. Notably, his work has featured on the cover of The RIBA Journal, he has become a regular at the Royal Scottish Academy’s Annual Exhibitions, he was commended (2025) and longlisted (2026) in the RIBAJ’s Eye Line drawing competition, and he has been both a Winner (2021) and two-time Finalist (2018 & 2026) at the American Institute of Architect’s Ken Roberts Memorial Delineation Competition – the world’s longest running architectural drawing contest. In 2025 Hamish was awarded The Royal Scottish Academy’s Medal for Architecture alongside the RSA x Wasps Award which led to this exhibition. Drawing on his lived experiences, the exhibition provides an eclectic mix of works that span the globe – from working with bamboo in the dense jungles of Indonesia to reaching the habitable edge of our planet’s atmosphere above 5000m in the Himalayas of Nepal. Closer to home, the restoration and refurbishment of a listed fishing village cottage examines the unique coastal ecology along Scotland’s northeast coast. Hamish’s work consistently seeks to bridge the gap between art and architecture – employing a multitude of mediums to communicate design ideas and explore the intricacies of the unique environments that his designs are placed within. Hamish Angus McAndrew is a Chartered Architect currently working across Scotland and the recipient of the 2025 RSA x Wasps Award alongside The Royal Scottish Academy’s 2025 Medal for Architecture. In July 2024, Hamish left his previous practice to progress the refurbishment of a listed fishing village cottage whilst simultaneously preparing for treks to both Everest Base Camp in Nepal and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. This move soon led him to establishing his own sole practice after being approached by a number of prospective clients. Through his architectural career, he has undertaken a lead role within a number of projects, ranging in scale, across a broad range of sectors – including community initiatives, residential & hospitality developments, commercial/leisure buildings, regeneration & master plan strategies, and healthcare facilities for the NHS. Beyond his project experience, Hamish’s architectural drawings and animations have received international acclaim – being featured in multiple publications and exhibited both nationally and overseas.
