About This Event

Wylde Britain takes place at the Ukrainian Community Centre. Bassoon soloist Laurence Perkins performs classical and traditional folk melodies alongside spoken word and natural soundscapes.

UK-charts bassoon soloist Laurence Perkins explores a wide range of classical and traditional folk melodies, alongside natural soundscapes and spoken legends. The places visited include Loch Ness, Hadrian’s Wall, a Cheshire wizard, Ireland, Snowdon in Wales, Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest, a Sussex woodland, a Cornish mermaid and the wild coast at Land’s End. The stories have been specially recorded by world-famous actors - Dame Judi Dench (Golden Globe awards), Sir Derek Jacobi (I Claudius, Cyrano de Bergerac), Sandra Voe (Shetland, Midsomer Murders), James Quinn (Coronation Street), Stephen Bill (award-winning BBC script writer) and Sef Townsend (storyteller for international festivals). The music will be released by Heritage Records in August, and will be available on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and other leading streaming platforms. The concerts are fundraisers for UK-Med and their vital medical aid for survivors in Ukraine, war zones worldwide and natural disasters including Venezuela. More details, tour dates and samples at wyldebritain.com including a video featuring Judi Dench, who has contributed a recorded narration specially for the ‘Wylde Britain’ concert programme.
