About This Event

Thirty years after the film’s release, *Trainspotting: The Musical* receives its world premiere at the Edinburgh Playhouse on Monday 19 October 2026 at 6.30pm. Written by Irvine Welsh, with music and lyrics by Stephen McGuinness and Welsh, the production is directed and developed by Caroline Jay Ranger. This stage adaptation returns to the raw, visceral world of Welsh’s original story, charting the lives of a group of young people caught in the grip of addiction and poverty in 1990s Edinburgh. With a runtime that demands the concentrated attention of its audience, the production harnesses the immediacy of live theatre to confront the brutality and dark humour of its source material.
