The SOC Annual Conference takes place on 3 October 2026 at the Eskmills Venue in Edinburgh. The event is open to members and non-members and will explore how birdwatchers across Scotland contribute to Scottish ornithology.
Open to members and non-members alike, this year’s Conference will explore the diverse ways in which birdwatchers across Scotland contribute to Scottish ornithology, highlighting key activities such as ringing, recording, research, arts and everyday birdwatching. In addition to the programme of talks, there will also be a bird ringing demonstration by Lothian Ringing Group (subject to weather conditions), a quiz hosted by past SOC President, Ian Thomson, and a screen printing demonstration with celebrated artist, Jane Smith. Optional local activities will be available on Sunday 4 October for delegates to enjoy and will include outings to Aberlady Bay hosted by Aberlady Bay Local Nature Reserve Warden, John Harrison; to Musselburgh Lagoons hosted by SOC staff members and volunteers; and a creative writing workshop hosted by SOC staff member, Trish Burnet. Don’t miss this inspiring celebration—a day of of learning, discussion and shared passion for birds and nature. Visit our website to book your place. Please note that spaces are limited and booking will close on 6 September 2026, or when the Conference is at capacity, whichever comes first. Under 16s are welcome to attend the Conference, but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Young people aged 16/17 can attend without an accompanying adult, provided SOC has received written, signed consent from a parent/carer in advance of the event.
