About This Event

On Wednesday 12 August 2026 at 6pm, St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room & Music Museum at the University of Edinburgh presents *Notes of Freedom*, a musical performance exploring the city’s historical ties to Africa and the Caribbean. Led by musician Lisa Williams, the evening weaves together spoken word and live music, drawing from archival songs and contemporary compositions to chart journeys across centuries and continents. The concert unfolds through the warm resonance of string instruments, the pulse of percussion, and the clarity of voices in call and response. Set within the intimate, wood-panelled concert room, the sound fills the space with a sense of both memory and forward motion. Admission ranges from free to £5, with tickets available on the door.
