About This Event

On Friday 7 August 2026, the Institut Français d’Écosse in Edinburgh presents *Bigger: France Showcase*, a theatre piece by dancer and choreographer Sofiane Chalal of Compagnie CHAABANE. Chalal brings an unconventional physicality to the stage, bending the perceived laws of dance with a body that defies traditional movement codes. The performance unfolds as a near-ritualistic rite of passage, exploring the body as both ally and adversary. It confronts the paradox between how we perceive ourselves and the lived reality of that perception—at once empowering and painful. Ticket prices are available on the venue’s website.

Sofiane Chalal, dancer and choreographer from Compagnie CHAABANE, performs the piece. The performance uses a distinctive physical language that blends the strength of hip hop with the delicacy of mime.
