Half-day conference exploring transformation in global politics through perspectives from the Global South.

Co-organised by the RIA’s Ethics, Politics, Law and Philosophy Committee and Standing Committee for International Affairs, this half-day conference explores the profound transformations reshaping global politics, viewed through perspectives from and positionalities of the Global South.

As geopolitical power shifts, many multilateral institutions face legitimacy crises, while new forms of economic, technological, and security interdependence emerge. Discussion of perspectives from the Global South is increasingly central to understanding the contemporary world order in this context.

The event will bring together scholars from several fields with a focus on political, legal and philosophical studies to examine how states and societies across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, are navigating and shaping these changes. Panel discussions will address themes such as evolving South–South cooperation, post-colonial power dynamics, development and inequality, global governance reforms, climate politics, and the strategic responses of emerging and middle powers.

About the Royal Irish Academy

The Royal Irish Academy, established in 1785, is an all-island, independent learned society and academic body that champions research by supporting and promoting scholarship in the sciences, humanities and social sciences. Its elected membership of approximately 680 individuals and 80 staff represent Ireland internationally, provide expert advice to government, carry out research, administer research grants, organise conferences and public lectures, publish academic books and journals, and maintain a research library.
