Chapters Bookstore presents The Write Stuff: an evening of conversation, music and more, with special guests.

Chapters Bookstore hosts the next Write Stuff evening with American author Pat Thomas, music journalist Stuart Bailie, and Horslips founding member Eamon Carr. Dublin writer Steve O'Toole curates and presents the evening, with PatThomas leading conversations with Eamon Carr and Stuart Bailie on their careers and written work.

Pat Thomas

Pat is a counterculture historian who has written books about the 1960s-70s political organization The Black Panthers and their relationship to music and poetry, musician Lou Reed, poet Allen Ginsberg, and the 1960s anti-Vietnam War Movement. He has appeared on the BBC and RTÉ discussing these topics.

Stuart Bailie

Stuart is a New Musical Express veteran, a music journalist and author from Belfast.

In his new book, The Song is Nearly Over, he reveals encounters with (and thoughts about) Mike Scott / Waterboys, Shane MacGowan, Sinéad O’Connor, Liam Clancy, Paul Brady, and others - 40 years of insights and shenanigans, a record of fast times in popular culture.

Since 1985, Stuart has been writing for NME, The Irish Times, The Times, Hot Press and more. His books include Trouble Songs: Music and Conflict in Northern Ireland (2018), Terri Hooley: Seventy-Five Revolutions (2023), 75 Van Songs (2020) and The Ballad of the Thin Man: The Authorised Biography of Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy (1997).

Eamon Carr

Eamon is a founding member of Horslips, Eamon Carr is a writer, musician, and art historian. He has co-written and recorded numerous albums with Horslips, including The Táin, current recipient of the RTE Choice Music Prize Classic Album Award, as well as album collaborations with The Last Bandits, Henry McCullough & Eamonn Dowd.

He is author of several books including Showbusiness with Blood (Lilliput Press), Foundation Song (Revival Press), Deirdre Unforgiven (Doire Press), The Origami Crow (Seven Towers) and Almost Made This Place My Own (Hi Tone Books). His verse play Dusk received its premier in the GPO, Dublin. His verse drama CúChulainn Awakes was filmed remotely during lockdown.

Steve O’Toole

Steve is a street stalking creative, poet, storyteller, & artist. The creative force behind ‘The Write Stuff’. Curating & hosting bespoke gatherings in collaborative poetry, storytelling, & music. Not one to sit on the fence, Steve firmly wears both his heart & mind on his sleeve, delivering forceful versed commentary by the page full.

He is currently editing & preparing for the release of his first anthology, due Autumn 2026.
