The Wales History Games Collective hosts The Battle of Polygon Wood at Firestorm Games Cardiff. The event involves a day of playing board games focused on history, politics, and war. Tickets are listed as free.
Come and tale part in a whole day playing boardgames about history, politics and war.
This event, named after the WW1 battle which took place on 26 September 1917, is the latest all-day gathering of the newly established Wales History Games Collective. We're starting to grow and this event will take place at what may become a regular base: the South Wales Gaming Centre, at Firestorm Games in Cardiff.
We're building the Collective slowly and are limited on this occasion to just ten spaces, across two large tables. If the event is a success, we will be expanding numbers for future events.
It is free to reserve your place, but the tickets will cost £6 for all-day gaming, paid on the day.
If you miss out on a ticket, you can still turn up on the day to meet others and fill any gaps if people come late or leave early.
Venue information
There is lots of information here about the South Wales Gaming Centre. It has food and a bar but does not permit users to bring their own food and drink.
Games organiser
When you have signed up, we will send you a games organiser spreadsheet. This will allow you to propose games you'd like to play, or sign up to play in a game that others are organising.

Parking at the venue
There is limited parking on site. Instead, there is a large retail park just behind Firestorm Games by Cardiff City's stadium with a public path that connects to Sloper Road. Parking is generally for a limited time with no return but you can park in the Asda car park and pay for the day or weekend here.
Other parking options are sometimes available on non match days at the Cardiff City Stadium, more information here. There is no fixture at the stadium on the day of the event.
Please note that Firestorm Games (and us, too) accept no responsibility for parking issues.
And finally, what's behind the name of the event...
The Battle of Polygon Wood took place in 1917 on 26 September (the day of this event) and was part of the Third Battle of Ypres. It saw another use of General Herbert Plumer's 'bite and hold' tactics, a creeping progression of heavy barrages followed by incremental infantry advances.
Description supplied by the event organiser.
