About This Event

The atmosphere was electric as Birdvox, an electrifying electro-folk supergroup, took the stage at The Live Room in Bradford. Their mesmerizing music filled the air, perfectly complemented by the rich tones of Iona Fyfe, one of Scotland’s finest traditional singers. Together they created a vibrant and immersive musical experience that brought together the modern sounds of electronic fusion with the timeless beauty of traditional folk, leaving attendees spellbound.

The second in our series of shows with Scotland Introducing. This one features and exciting new electro-folk ‘supergroup’ and one of Scotland’s finest trad singers on one mighty bill.

Birdvox

Birdvox is an exciting new electro-folk band, formed from a collective passion for birds, harmonies and impromptu kitchen discos. The group channels energetic, shapeshifting synthesis and celebrates the delight of vocal interplay. Audiences can expect velvet harmonies, thoughtful lyrics, and vibrant, bespoke beats throughout their performances.

The ensemble consists of four established, multi-tasking artist-producers: Sarah Hayes: vocals, flute, synths, programming; Charlotte Printer: vocals, bass; Jenny Sturgeon: vocals, guitar, synths, sampling; Inge Thomson: vocals, accordion, electronica, beats.

Working across genres including traditional folk, indie, electronica and pop, the group sings in Scots, Shetland dialect, old Norn and English. Birdvox distil their individual influences into a distinctive musical perspective, offering audiences an exuberant live experience.

Birdvox have been featured in Songlines magazine and have received glowing reviews for their dynamic performances. The Skinny described their shows as ‘perhaps the standout event of the whole festival... exciting and energetic... at the intersection of boundary-pushing art and extremely listenable, melody-based pop’.

The band’s eagerly anticipated début album, unflinching, uplifting and danceable in equal measure, will be released on Hudson Records in Autumn 2026.

Iona Fyfe

Aberdeenshire folksinger, Iona Fyfe, has become one of Scotland’s finest singers, rooted deeply in the singing traditions of the North East of Scotland. In 2021, she became the first singer to win the coveted title of Musician of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards.

A two-time winner of Scots Singer of the Year, Iona has performed across Europe, the US, Canada and Australia. Iona is a fierce advocate for the official recognition of the Scots Language, leading a successful campaign to pressure Spotify into recognising Scots and add it to its list of languages. Honoured at the Scots Language Awards with the title of Speaker of the Year in 2021, Iona performs both folk and pop songs in the Scots language, remaining true to her rooting in tradition.

Iona has featured in several publications including The Sunday Post, The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Times. She won the title of Scots Singer of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards in 2018 and was described as ‘one of the best Scotland has to offer.’
