Come and join local Living History enthusiast Heather as she brings to life crafts from the Northwest's Heritage.
Demonstrating the slowly vanishing skills that went into producing our clothing using natural materials.
Inspired by the Heritage Crafts Red List, we’re focusing on endangered crafts.
We'll supply
• All materials and tuition
• Hot/cold drinks and tasty snacks
This month
You’ll be introduced to leather techniques to make a replica first century Roman pouch.
This leather pattern is directly inspired by a Vindolanda find from Hadrian’s Wall.
The pouch has a lovely shape to it, made to house a comb but has been adapted.
It can be slipped onto a belt or suspended from a plait.
Material: natural leather which is pre-dyed
Dimensions: Envelope style 13.5cm Long , 12.5 cm Wide
Ethical information: We follow the Heritage Crafts guidance on ethical sourcing.
Please note this item will be hand stitched and no metal will be used except a
needle and awl in construction. Also be aware we will be working with an animal
byproduct and utilising pre-dyed leather.
This session is in our upstairs workshop space. We have a lift! Otherwise it is fourteen steps turn a corner and two more steps. There is an accessible loo on the same floor.
GETTING HERE
Tram & Train to Blackpool North Station
Bus: No 6 or 18 to Topping St., No 3, 3a, 5c, 6, 18 to Church St (Stanley Buildings), No 5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7a, 14 to Talbot Rd
Driving: The closest pay and display car parks are on East Topping St and Talbot Road multi storey. There is also parking at the nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket, please make sure that you check the terms before you use the car park.
TOP TIP: If you need to park a car, then there is usually plenty of free on-street parking on Edward St and Topping St from 6pm.
